So I was reminded of my first clear IOI the other day by a friend after she read my previous blog post on IOI’s. This is a cute story so thought I’d share.

A friend who got married and moved to America was visiting in the summer, so a few of us decided to have a little reunion meal/ girls night out. We wanted to re-enact her hen party and decided on a meal followed by karaoke and dancing…all 3 of these things I love.

She decided on her favourite Italian restaurant in the city centre. I was picked up by a couple of friends and we were meeting 2 more people at the restaurant.

As we approached our ex-pat friend was waiting outside chatting to a young man. We all embraced her and started to go into the restaurant when the young man said to me “wait a minute, you’re very attractive, would you be interested in going on a date with me?”

WWWHHHHAAATTTT?????!!!

To be frank, this fella looked about 19, was dressed all in black, had quite a few facial piercings and was smoking what looked like and smelt like a joint. Let’s just ignore all of that and appreciate the moment. It was wonderful. What a brave thing for anyone to say…even someone who was probably quite stoned at the time.

We all stood by, staring at this young man, mouths open in shock at what had just occurred.

I reacted the only way I know how…I laughed!

Then my friend said “she’d have to sort out a babysitter first, she has 2 kids”.

His response was that he didn’t care if I had kids or not, he would like to take me out. Although I had no interest in accepting his offer (he seemed a bit too young for me), I sent my friends into the restaurant so that I could chat to him. I found out his name is Dominic, he gave me his number and asked me to call him sometime. I told him that he was the bravest man I had met in a long time and that his offer of a date and compliments had made my day, week, month! He told me he had never done that before.

I wish there were more men with balls like him. Or at least a man that I fancy with balls like him. Big brave balls!
