I write poems for happy occasions (birthdays, weddings, anniversary’s) and for sad ones (funerals). This has been a sad week. I might not be any good at it but I don’t care.
I thought I’d hear from you today,
A sign that you’re thinking of me.
A little bit of normality,
A reminder of what used to be.
I thought you’d come to your senses,
Realise the error of your ways.
See that I’m the only one,
With whom you could spend your days.
I opened up my heart to you,
Asked you to join my life.
I wanted us to have a future,
I caused you little strife.
You teased me with suggestions,
Of plans for us next year.
When all you have within your heart,
Is long term commitment fear.
I wish that things were different,
That you could just admit,
That despite all that you said to me,
You’re ready to commit.
That the thought of not having me at all
Was enough to make you reconsider,
The family we all could be,
That with me you’d be a winner.
For now I’m left with memories,
Of times that I will cherish.
I want you to be happy,
For you that’s my biggest wish.
